Mergers and Acquisitions: Don’t forget about the data!
Mergers and acquisitions are a common phenomenon nowadays. The pressure to be competitive and strengthen its position on the market drives organization to mergers and acquisitions. Except for those companies who are in a constant acquisition mode, others are not prepared for this challenge and data is the last thing they think about when signing the papers.
A strategy for merger execution is made and our first challenge is to put data on this roadmap. The impact of data is either underestimated, or somewhere near the bottom of the priority list. Greenfield or brownfield implementation, no matter what direction will be taken, but data should be near the top of the execution plan.
We will learn that data will steer the timing of the merger process and suddenly become a critical activity. During the merger process operational reporting will be produced in threefold: current, temporary corporate and final corporate.
But it’s not only bad news, it gives us a unique opportunity to put a data governance organization in place.
