The State of Information and Data Quality 2012 Industry Survey & Report

Abstract:

This webinar presents the findings of a survey jointly conducted by the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ) and the Information Quality Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR-IQ) between March 19 and April 20, 2012. The purpose of the study was to better understand the current state of information and data quality programs and practices in organizations around the world. The goal of the analysis was to provide valuable insights for information/data quality practitioners, job seekers, employers, and the academic community in evaluating existing maturity levels regarding information and data quality efforts and to aid in setting the agenda for future growth of the discipline.

About the Author

Elizabeth Pierce

Elizabeth Pierce is an Associate Professor of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). She joined the faculty in August 2006 as part of UALR’s efforts to launch the first Master of Science in Information Quality.

Prior to coming to UALR, Elizabeth Pierce taught for 11 years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD in Statistics & Management Science from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Iona College, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Quantitative Business Analysis and Mathematics from Penn State.

C. Lwanga Yonke

C. Lwanga Yonke is a seasoned information quality and data management leader with more than 20 years of oil industry experience. He is a founding member of the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ) and currently serves as an Advisor to the IAIDQ Board.

Lwanga is the recipient of the 2011 IAIDQ Distinguished Service Award, and the 2008 SPE Western North America Regional Management and Information Award.

About the Author

Christian Walenta

Piyush Malik focuses on strategic initiatives and emerging technologies as part of IBM’s Global Business Analytics & Optimization (BAO) consulting practice. Currently he leads their Big Data Services Center of Excellence. Specializing in Information management strategy and architecture, information quality and governance, business intelligence, master data and advanced analytics, he has over twenty years of international consulting, practice building, sales and delivery experience with Fortune 500 clients across industries. Piyush has served on the Board of Directors of IAIDQ since 2008 and has been a charter member since its inception. 

 He has served as the founding director of IBM’s Global BAO Center of Competency and previously led the Information Integrity consulting practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services prior to its acquisition by IBM in 2002.

 

About the Author

Chitra Kagathur Nagaraj recently completed her Master of Science in information Quality at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, India.

Chitra has several years of IT experience, including work as a Quality Assurance analyst in India. Her interests include database, data warehouse and embedded systems.

Robin Rappaport's photo

Robin Rappaport is the Data Quality Team Leader responsible for delivery of the Data Quality Initiative for Research Databases at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Her work and that of her team contributed to the IRS being awarded a Computerworld Honor and a Government Computer News (GCN) Gala Award. She has over 25 years of experience as a Data Quality practitioner. Her undergraduate degree was in Economics with Computer Science. Her graduate work was in Operations Research with a concentration in Mathematical Modeling in Information Systems. She has worked in both private (6 years) and public sectors (since June 1990). Her positions include Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, and Operations Research Analyst.

In addition to the International Association for Information & Data Quality (IAIDQ), she is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS). She was Chairman, Individual Membership for the Washington, D.C. chapter from 1987- 1990. She was elected Secretary and served from 1990 - 1991.

She lives in Baltimore, Maryland USA with her husband and their four children. She is also a Girl Scout Leader.
